3D Static Modeling and CO2 Static Storage Estimation of the Hydrocarbon-Depleted Charis Reservoir, Bredasdorp Basin, South Africa

Abstract An essential greenhouse gas effect mitigation technology is carbon capture, utilization and storage, with dioxide (CO 2 ) injection into underground geological formations as a core of sequestration. Developing robust 3D static model the formation interest for CO storage paramount to deduce its facies changes petrophysical properties. This study investigates depleted oilfield reservoir within Bredasdorp Basin, offshore South Africa. It sandstone effective porosity mean 13.92% dominant permeability values 100–560 mD (1 = 9.869233 × 10 –16 m ). The properties are controlled, southwestern area siltstone shale has reduced permeability. volume shows that composed clean sands, water saturation 10–90%, hence suitable based on characteristics. Static capacity virgin aquifer estimates sequestration 0.71 Mt (million tons) 1.62 , respectively. Sensitivity studies showed depletion at bubble point pressure increased more than twice initial pressure. Reservoir below presence cap also markedly.
